Bridgewater's Recreation Commission is negotiating with the school district to give youth lacrosse a long-term home on the middle school's fields, after the program was forced into a temporary setup at Legion Field.
BRIDGEWATER --
TOWN -- The Bridgewater Recreation Commission met Sept. 14 and took up two facility projects. On the planned Williams School playground, members said the new site would go in the center field of the old Legion Field/senior field behind the school, and the project remains tied to a Community Preservation Committee application that is now being handled through the town manager's office. Members also discussed protecting the playground's equipment from foul balls with fencing and netting.
On the middle school's multi-use field, commission members said they met with Superintendent Powers and school staff member Mark Chalker about letting lacrosse use the old football field on weekends, with a second field reserved for practice, and about giving the program access to the field's concession stand to raise money. The school district is scheduled to meet again with the commission Sept. 29 at 10 a.m. to give answers on field assignment and concession stand use. Commission members also discussed adding a storage building for field equipment, to be built in phases.
YOUTH LEAGUES -- Youth lacrosse is currently playing out of Legion Field on a temporary basis after the program had to move off school grounds, commission members said at the Sept. 14 meeting; the talks with the school district are aimed at giving the sport a longer-term home on the middle school's fields. The Bridgewater Youth Soccer Association held its monthly general meeting Sept. 15 by Google Meet, the organization said on its website, part of a schedule held the third Tuesday of each month.
