Tree Committee Approves Minutes, Advances Linden Plan

Other Committee · Meeting of August 18, 2026

Bridgewater Tree Committee, down to three of five members, debates whether it can keep functioning. Chair Ray said the panel hasn't attracted new members in years and that Nicole, one of two absent members, is "concerned about her availability" going forward, prompting talk of asking the town council for recruiting help. Meanwhile Brian, a non-voting committee associate, recommended replacing six declining beech trees on the town common with two-inch caliper silver linden trees, pending sign-off from the Business Improvement Association, chaired by Merrilee Hunt, at its August 24 meeting.

Brian also delivered a rough tree-by-tree inventory of Broad Street flagging dead ash trees and missing plantings, warning the town "should act quickly" before highway paving eliminates more tree pits. No grant funding is expected before next year. The committee approved its June 9 minutes unanimously and adjourned unanimously, aiming to finalize both tree plans at its next meeting.
