Board of Health Renews Tobacco Inspection Pact
Board of Health · Meeting of September 30, 2026
Bridgewater Board of Health votes to keep outside agencies covering for its vacant health agent post. The board unanimously reappointed the Massachusetts Health Officers Association as the town's tobacco inspection agent, with grant funding confirmed through fiscal year 2028, and separately authorized the Halifax Public Health Excellence Group to designate nurse Kathy Evans as the town's first-ever backup user of MAVEN, the state's communicable disease tracking system. A board member said the tobacco arrangement has generated no disputes in "the past six months, which is great." The town's health agent position remains unfilled, with Human Resources still gathering applicants, and the Halifax Public Health Excellence Group has also released roughly $2,000 in emergency funds Bridgewater can tap between its monthly meetings with the group.
