Bridgewater Cultural Council adopts new grant eligibility guidelines
Other Committee · Meeting of August 19, 2026
Bridgewater Cultural Council rewrites its own grant guidelines after a lapsed deadline forced it onto state default rules for a year. Members adopted five eligibility criteria covering artists and events tied to Bridgewater, plus a separate priorities list favoring Bridgewater residents, in-town events and free programs. A member identified as Terry, secretary of the Friends of the Bridgewater Public Library, was named treasurer and separately asked the group whether she could apply for a grant on behalf of an out-of-town performer for an October library program; fellow members Theo and others advised her to recuse herself from any vote rather than sit out entirely.
Members said the library received no council funding last year despite requesting it, calling that outcome a surprise. The council confirmed it has $22,900 available for the current round, plus an untallied carryover balance, and remains a direct-grant program that does not require receipts.
