Bridgewater Tree Committee funds 12 trees for common, Broad Street
Other Committee · Meeting of September 16, 2026
Bridgewater Tree Committee funds 12 new trees for the common and Broad Street. The panel voted unanimously to approve a Bridgewater Improvement Association-funded $2,269 purchase of six trees for the town common through Weston Nursery, and a separate purchase of up to six trees for Broad Street not to exceed $5,000. Committee member Brian said a beech tree outside the town library, weakened by beech leaf disease, could be preserved through periodic trunk injections costing an estimated $2,000 to $3,000 per round, with the town holding roughly $25,000 in tree mitigation funds from a hotel developer.
"So whether Paul wants to spend money or not, I think it's irrelevant," the chair said of using committee funds instead. Members also began outlining a future "adopt a tree" program and set a September 22 work session to build the committee's first webpage.
