Parks and Recreation · Meeting of September 14, 2026

Bridgewater parks board pushes $500,000 multi-use field project toward a 2027 groundbreaking. Committee member Mark Thomas reported on a site meeting with school Superintendent Powers over field maintenance, concessions and scheduling, saying the goal is to move lacrosse off a costly private turf field: "They've been using the turf field. It's astronomical money.

It's crazy." The Community Preservation Committee has approved up to $500,000 for the project, with construction bids capped at $475,000 after $25,000 already spent on engineering. Members also approved a $5,640.60 donation from Dennis Chalmers of Mass Window and Door for a new Scotland Field scoreboard, referred to the town council's Budget and Finance Committee ahead of an October 6 vote, and revisited longstanding frustration that the town manager's office excluded the board from a prior golf course management decision. Michael Flaherty said, "The power of the town manager is so exclusive that the boards, we can suggest things, but it's up to the town manager, and there's nothing you can do about it."
