Committee Votes to Continue Demolition Delay Talks
Bridgewater's Community and Economic Development Committee weighed stretching its demolition delay ordinance from about two months to as long as two years.
Other Committee · Meeting of July 30, 2026
Bridgewater's Community and Economic Development Committee weighed stretching its demolition delay ordinance from about two months to as long as two years. Resident James Walsh circulated a written proposal arguing the change, paired with new Central Square property maintenance standards, would push owners toward historic preservation, asking "do you want to wait out the clock or would you rather maybe add your property to the historic register." Tree Warden Brian McMahon reported six common beech trees have fatal beech leaf disease and proposed a under-$500 experimental treatment funded by the Bridgewater Improvement Association rather than the town. The committee voted unanimously to continue both the demolition delay and maintenance-standards discussions to its next meeting, inviting the building inspector to attend.
Community Preservation Committee Vice Chair Carl reported the townhouse interior assessment is nearly complete, with an officers' briefing expected around August 18.
