BRIDGEWATER — The Bridgewater Town Council voted 8-1 to create a committee studying a possible future property tax override. Councilor Carlton Hunt cast the lone dissent, saying the timing was wrong, while Councilor Lindy called it "prudent to do this now." The seven-member panel, drawing from the council, Finance Committee, residents and the school committee, must report back by February 1, 2027. Separately, Town Manager Justin reported major water gains: a Carver's Pond pipe and valve repair lifted output from roughly 175,000 to 575,000 gallons a day, and new Plymouth Street wells are expected to add roughly 500,000 gallons daily once online.
The council also referred a library budget supplemental appropriation to committee, needed, officials said, to avoid triggering a state certification waiver, and approved a traffic ticket fee increase aligning town fines with Bridgewater State University's rates.
